See what manner of love the Father has given unto us. This gift of extravagance, which we cannot comprehend. That we should be called the children of God, and yet we are.
Mary anointed Jesus with a flask of pure and expensive nard. The perfume of the spikenard plant was costly, 300 denarii, a year’s wages.
Yet she broke her precious vessel and poured out costly oil to anoint Christ, the Savior whom she loved.
We commend Mary as a worshiper of God. How much more shall we praise our Savior for His gift of love?
Mary’s gift cannot match the extravagance of the gift poured out at the cross.
There is no gift more extravagant than the blood of Christ.
The very blood of God poured out for us.
Let us follow Mary’s example. Let us follow in the steps of our Savior. May we not refrain from pouring out our extravagant gifts at the feet of Christ, who lavished His love upon us at the cross.
“Were the whole realm of nature mine,
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
that were a tribute far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine
demands my soul, my life, my all.”
He has risen indeed.
Happy Resurrection Day
